There are Three types of the water cooled condenser like Shell and Tube condenser,Shell and coil condenser,Double Pipe condenser,Plate type heat exchanger. The water cooled condenser used in commercial or Industrial purpose.

   There are Three types of  the water cooled condenser

   . Shell and Tube Type condenser

   . Shell and coil Type condenser

   . Double Pipe Type condenser

   . Plate type heat exchanger



Shell and Tube Type condenser

   This type of condenser may either be 

              . horizontal or parallel type 

              . vertical type



Horizontal Shell and Tube Type Water Cooled Condenser

   The Horizontal shell and tube type condenser the refrigerant flows through the shell side and the water flows through the tube side. 

    It construction, shell-and-tube condenser consists of a shell made of cast iron and the tube sheets made of copper, water connection, and refrigerant connections. In the smaller sizes the shell may be standard pipe, but welded shells are used in the larger sizes. Tube sheets, usually 25 to 30 mm thick, are welded to the shell and drilled to receive tubes. Tubes with ground or polished ends are inserted through their respective tube sheet holes and rolled or welded to provide a gas-tight joint.

  It is Generally used in the small, medium and large tonnage of the system. The example of the commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning system or plants, package air conditioner etc. 



 Vertical Open Shell and Tube Type Water Cooled Condenser

    The vertical open shell and tube type condenser the refrigerant flows through the shell side and the water flows through the tube side. 

    It construction, The shell and tube type condenser consists of a shell is made of cast iron and tube is made of copper. This type of condenser stands on end. Water is distributed over the entire head and enters each tube through the swirler to distribute the water evenly against the inside of the tube walls, where it flows downward by gravity. 

   It is generally used in the medium and large tonnage of the system. The example of the commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning system or plants. 



Shell and coil Type condenser

     The shell and coil type condenser the flows through the refrigerant to the shell side and the water flows through the coil or tube side is called. 

     It construction of the, consists of the shell is made of Cast iron and tube is made of copper. They do not have removable heads and the water side of the coil may be cleaned only with chemicals. In case of a coil leakage the entire coil bank must be replaced. The shell and coil condenser is preferable where clean water is available because its coil cannot be cleaned easily. This type of condenser can be cleaned only by circulating acids or other chemicals through them. This may be done on a continuous basis by adding a small amount of chemical to the water while the unit is in operation. the unit may be taken out of service while a stronger solution is circulated for short time.

    It is generally used in the smaller tonnage low pressure units or system up to 50 TR capacity. The example, of the commercial or industrial small and medium refrigeration and air conditioning plants. 


 Double Pipe Type condenser

    The Double pipe type condenser the flows through the refrigerant to the outer pipe or tube and the water flows through the opposite direction to the refrigerant, inner pipe or tube is called. 

   It construction, consists of the outer pipe or tube is made of copper or steel and the inner pipe or tube is made of copper or steel. copper tubing cannot be used with ammonia refrigerant, this type of condenser is made of steel pipe for ammonia refrigerant, usually with 30 mm pipe inside a 50 mm pipe.The counter-flow arrangement is preferred because it gives higher long-mean temperature difference and therefore gives high rate of heat transfer.  

   It is Generally used in the smaller tonnage of the system up to 10 TR capacity. The Example, of the commercial or industrial small and medium refrigerating machines and air conditioning plants. 


 Plate type heat exchanger

     The plate type of heat exchanger is cooled down by the help of water or fluid. 

   It construction, consists of the two flat plates are made of Stainless steel is a commonly used metal and fitted or Welding together.

   The working principle, of the flows through the hot Refrigerant or compressed vapour refrigerant to the one side of the plate and the cooled or normal water flows through the other side of the plate then hot Refrigerant contact with cooled or normal water then exchanged or converted to the liquid or normal refrigerant and hot water flows through the out let from the plate.   

   It is generally used in the large tonnage of the system. The example of the commercial or industrial refrigerating machine and large air conditioning system or plants. 



Application of the water cooled condenser

   The water cooled condenser used in  commercial or Industrial purpose. The Example, 

     . Package air conditioner

     . central air conditioning plants

     . chilled water flows system's 

     . large air conditioning plants 

     . large Refrigerating machine etc.
